Gonçalo Regalado, CEO of Banco Português de Fomento (BPF), took part in
"Leaders’ Perspectives for 2026”, published in the January edition of
Executive Digest, where he shares his vision on the role of the financial sector and, in particular, on BPF’s role in driving the Portuguese economy.
In the article, the CEO highlights the importance of a stable, efficient financial sector focused on the real economy, capable of mobilising investment, supporting businesses and strengthening national competitiveness. In this context, he underlines the central role of Banco Português de Fomento as a strategic economic policy instrument, offering multiple solutions to foster investment for economic growth.
Among the main points addressed, Gonçalo Regalado highlights:
- Guarantees: A volume of eight billion euros in national guarantees for investment, complemented by seven billion euros in European guarantees from the EIF for innovation by 2026.
- Capital: The creation of Portugal’s new Sovereign Fund, a fund of funds aimed at equity investment in companies with value creation potential.
- Partnerships: The importance of cooperation with European institutions, particularly the European Investment Bank, to strengthen Europe’s economic and industrial sovereignty.
- Grants and strategic investment: The allocation of more than €930 million in grants to companies investing in reindustrialisation, defence and artificial intelligence, enabling the mobilisation of investment with a significant impact on growth.
- Internationalisation: Strengthened support for internationalisation through the centralisation of the Export Credit Agency within BPF and the integration of SOFID, enhancing financing for Portuguese investment abroad.
