"In an increasingly demanding economic and regulatory environment, the ability to transform data into reliable and actionable information has become crucial. At Banco Português de Fomento, robust data governance, supported by Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics, is a strategic driver for informed decision-making, contributing to institutional trust and enhancing the Bank’s impact on the Portuguese economy."

Hélder Leite,  Coordinating Director of Information Management, BPF

The growing complexity of digital ecosystems and technological acceleration are redefining information as a strategic asset. The exponential growth of data requires new capabilities to ensure the reliability, integrity and timeliness of the information used in decision-making processes, ensuring consistency and traceability throughout its lifecycle.

In this context, solid data governance, supported by Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics, is central to the Bank’s evolution. More than a technological requirement, it is an essential prerequisite to ensure rigour, transparency and trust in strategic decisions, within a framework of increasing regulatory demands and public scrutiny.

This evolution is aligned with international best practices in data governance and the national regulatory framework, strengthening the integrity, traceability and reliability of information in decision-making and reporting processes.

Information Management is a structural pillar of this transformation. It contributes to the definition of models, methodologies and processes, as well as to the modernisation of data and analytics platforms, promoting an integrated and cross-functional approach and ensuring institutional coherence and organisational ownership across the Bank’s structure.

The development of analytical capabilities will enable the organisation to access consistent, comparable and timely indicators, raising the quality of decision support. Information will no longer be merely descriptive but will underpin performance monitoring, the assessment of the impact of public investment policies and the strategic direction of the Bank’s activities.

The progressive adoption of this model will strengthen BPF’s ability to anticipate trends, identify risks and opportunities, and improve the quality of information used in planning, monitoring and reporting processes. At the same time, it will enable a more robust response to the requirements of supervisory authorities and institutional partners, reinforcing external trust and the Bank’s reputation.

This journey contributes to BPF’s mission by supporting companies and promoting the development of the Portuguese economy with greater effectiveness, transparency and impact.

At the Information Management Department, we view this evolution as a continuous and structural process. Data governance and Business Intelligence represent a strategic investment aimed at creating public value, consolidating institutional credibility and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Bank’s activities.
