The Banco Português de Fomento (BPF) and
Bpifrance, respectively the national promotional banks of Portugal and France,
signed, in Paris, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and creating new opportunities for Companies in both countries.
The agreement sets the basis for joint efforts and coordinated actions to promote investment, support the international expansion of Portuguese and French Companies, and foster innovation and competitiveness in both Economies.

The MoU will have a duration of three years, with the possibility of developing specific agreements for concrete projects. The partnership is expected to strengthen economic relations between Portugal and France, support job creation and promote sustainable growth.
Cooperation in strategic areas
The partnership provides for collaboration in several strategic areas, namely:
- Co-financing projects in key sectors such as infrastructure, innovation and sustainability;
- Support for the internationalisation of Portuguese and French SMEs;
- Development of knowledge-sharing mechanisms and regular consultations at the highest level.
Joint initiatives may include:
- Identification of export credit opportunities and financing for foreign clients, in line with OECD rules;
- Creation of technological partnerships between French and Portuguese Companies, through multilateral initiatives such as the Eureka programme;
- Joint investments in Companies or funds, both in France and in international markets.
Technical assistance and commitment to best practices
Both institutions may provide technical expertise in areas such as the design of financing programmes, innovation funds and training initiatives.
BPF and Bpifrance also reaffirm their commitment to international standards, business ethics and anti-corruption practices in all joint activities.
