2nd Meeting of the Portugal Consortium for the AI Gigafactory

. 2025-09-22
Banco Português de Fomento (BPF) organized, last Friday, September 19, in Lisbon, the 2nd Meeting of the Portugal Consortium for the AI Gigafactory.

The meeting brought together the consortium’s partner entities and was attended by Gonçalo Saraiva Matias, Deputy Minister and Minister for State Reform.

It was an important moment to mobilize and reinforce the commitment of the companies and partner institutions within the consortium in building the national proposal, with practical execution and the guaranteed availability of 100,000 GPUs, essential for its activation and operationalization.

Recall that in June, a proposal was submitted to the European Commission, led by BPF as the coordinating entity and supported by the Government of Portugal, for the creation of one of Europe’s five Artificial Intelligence Factories, with an investment of €4 billion.

The national consortium will include major business groups from various sectors, universities, and research centers, with a shared ambition: to position Portugal at the forefront of European technological innovation in areas strategic to the economy.

Together, We Move Portugal Forward.
